About the Game
Stony Brook begins its first five-game stretch of road games in four years Tuesday when it makes the trip into Brooklyn to play St. Francis College. The Seawolves are looking for their best nine-game start and five-game road start in their Div. I history. This is the second all-time meeting between the two teams. The first meeting was Stony Brook’s first game as a Div. I program - Nov. 20, 1999 in Binghamton. The Terriers won the game 90-73. Stony Brook is 7-9 all-time against the Northeast Conference since becoming a Div. I program.
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers are off to a 2-5 start, holding wins over Lafayette and Brown while losing to Illinois, Army, Norfolk State, Albany and Boston College. St. Francis was picked to finish fifth in the 12-team NEC after finishing fourth last season with a 15-15 record. The Terriers, under third-year head coach Glenn Braica, returned four starters from last season’s team, including leading scorer Ben Mockford, who averaged 11.8 points and 2.8 three-pointers made per game. Mockford is averaging 11.3 points so far this season, but Jalen Cannon, who was the nation’s second leading rebounder among freshmen last season, has taken over with 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds this season.
Last Time Out
Marcus Rouse came off the bench and gave the Seawolves instant offense with 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from behind the arc for 16 points to lift the Seawolves to a 66-52 win over Eastern Illinois. Three-point shooting helped the Panthers turn a 12-point second-half deficit to a one-point deficit, but Stony Brook answered the bell in the final minutes by making 11-of-12 free throw attempts, and Rouse punctuated the day with a three-pointer with 1:50 remaining to make it a double-digit lead once again. Anthony Jackson had 13 points, and Tommy Brenton had 11 rebounds and four assists.
