Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team will look for their first home wins of the season on Saturday when they play host to Holy Cross in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

The Seawolves dropped a pair of games to Big 12 opponent Texas Tech on Wednesday, falling by scores of 4-1 and 6-3. In the first game, freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) limited the Red Raiders to six hits, while striking out five in a complete-game effort. Stony Brook led 1-0 heading into the top of the fifth, but Texas Tech scored four runs in the inning to take a three-run lead. In the second game, the Red Raiders jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second, before Stony Brook chiseled away to make it 5-3 after six. The Seawolves could get no closer, however, and dropped a second consecutive three-run decision.
Stony Brook
Freshman Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) powers the Stony Brook offense with two home runs and 10 RBI entering the weekend. Giosia leads the team with 14 runs and a .460 slugging percentage. Overall, four Seawolves are hitting better than .300 through 16 games, including senior Alyssa Hawley (Spokane, Wash.), who leads the squad at .324. Cukrov has been dominant in the circle thus far; in 10 appearances, the freshman has four wins, two saves, 62 strikeouts and a 1.71 ERA.
Holy Cross
The Crusaders enter Saturday’s doubleheader with a 2-10 record after playing their first 12 games of the season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. Holy Cross beat Yale, 7-6, and Manhattan, 3-0, for its two wins. Ashleigh Vargas leads the team with a .343 average, while Sam Fregenti owns a team-high two home runs and nine RBI. Despite a 1-5 record, pitcher Julia Barrett has a 2.07 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched.
