Winners of six of its last seven games, the Stony Brook baseball team looks to continue its winning ways this weekend with doubleheaders at Columbia and Holy Cross. SBU takes on Columbia on Friday before facing Holy Cross on Sunday. First pitch on both days is noon.
Last time out: Freshman Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) went 4-for-6 with three RBI to lead the Stony Brook University baseball team to an 11-2 victory over the Fordham Rams on Tuesday afternoon at Houlihan Park. It was the third straight victory for the Seawolves and the sixth in the last seven games. Freshman Matt Gallup (Albany, N.Y.) started for Stony Brook (12-6) and did not allow a hit in 3.0 scoreless innings.Senior Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.) added two hits and two RBI for the Seawolves and freshman Steven Goldstein (East Meadow, N.Y.) chipped in with two hits.
Seawolves News & Notes: Junior Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) was named National Hitter of the Week by the NCBWA on Tuesday ... Jankowski hit .600 last week and set the program's career steals records over the weekend at Yale ... junior Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) entered this week ranked 11th in the nation in batting average ... the Seawolves pitching staff is seventh in the country in hits allowed per nine innings and ninth in ERA.
Scouting Columbia: The Lions (3-11) are coming off a week long trip to California in which they went 2-8. Columbia returns six position starters and two weekend starters from last year's squad that went 19-25. Billy Rumpke is hitting a team-high .321 while Dario Pizzano leads the squad in doubles (six) and RBI (10). The Lion pitching staff is allowing just over 5.0 runs per game.
Scouting Holy Cross: The Crusaders (8-7) have won four of five and will take on Columbia on Saturday before taking on the Seawolves on Sunday. Holy Cross was picked fourth in the Patriot League preseason coaches poll. The Crusaders finished fifth in the conference last season with a 24-23-1 overall record, going 9-11 in the Patriot League and finishing over .500 for the first time since the 1991 season. Jordan Enos is hitting .328 to lead Holy Cross, which is averaging under 4.0 four runs per game.
