The Stony Brook University baseball team kicks off a four-game series with the New York Tech Bears with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader at NYIT on Sunday.
Last Time Out: The Seawolves had their five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Holy Cross Crusaders. SBU lost game one, 3-1 before Holy Cross rallied for a 5-3 victory in the second game.
Seawolves News & Notes: Junior Maxx Tissenbaum's .432 batting average is 18th in the nation ... the Seawolves pitching staff is 27th in the country in ERA (2.92) and seventh in hits allowed per nine innings (6.94) ... sophomore right-hander Brandon McNitt is ninth in the country with a 1.01 ERA ... senior catcher Pat Cantwell has been named a candidate for the Johnny Bench award, which is given annually to the top catcher in college baseball ... the Seawolves kick off conference play next weekend with a three-game series against Binghamton at Joe Nathan Field ... Stony Brook leads the America East in ERA, batting average and fielding percentage.
Scouting NYIT: The Bears are coming off an 8-5 loss at Manhattan on Wednesday, their eighth straight loss. NYIT has already played one America East opponent already this season, dropping three of four to Albany. The Bears are led offensively by Ali Rodriguez, who is hitting .400 with 11 RBI and is 11-for-11 on steal attempts. The NYIT pitching staff is allowing a little over eight runs per game.
