March 5, 2012

Cambridge, Mass. - Freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) of the Stony Brook softball team was named the America East Pitcher of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office. Cukrov posted a 2-0 record and a 1.00 ERA at the GW Colonial Classic last weekend, striking out 19 batters in 14 innings.

Cukrov pitched the Seawolves to a 5-2 victory over Siena on Friday, fanning 10 batters and walking none in a complete-game effort. The freshman followed up with another stellar performance against Robert Morris on Saturday, punching out nine RMU batters and limiting the Colonials to just one hit in a 1-0 win.

For the weekend, Cukrov allowed just two runs and six hits, while walking three. Cukrov now owns a 2-2 record and a 2.39 ERA this season with 33 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting just .183 off the Irvine, Calif. native this season.

The Seawolves pitching staff of Cukrov, sophomore Christine Lucido (Melville, N.Y.), sophomore Alexandra Clark (Warsaw, Va.) and junior Taylor Chain (Gloucester, N.J.) combined for a 1.11 ERA in four games at the Colonial Classic. Stony Brook outscored its opposition by a 20-5 margin en route to a 3-1 record at the competition.

The Seawolves return to action this weekend when they travel to Ft. Myers, Fla. for the LaQuinta Inn and Suites Spring Break Tournament hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University.
