Cukrov garners fourth AE Pitcher of the Week nod

April 16, 2012

Cambridge, Mass. - Freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) of the Stony Brook softball team received her fourth America East Pitcher of the Week nomination on Monday after posting a 4-0 record and a 0.52 ERA last week. Cukrov struck out 20 batters in 27 innings, while holding opponents to a .122 batting average.

On Monday vs. Rider, Cukrov pitched both games of the doubleheader and limited the Broncs to just six total hits on the day. Cukrov struck out eight and conceded only two hits in game one as the Seawolves rolled to an 8-0 win in six innings. In game two, Cukrov stifled the Rider offense once again, fanning two in a 3-1 Stony Brook victory.

The Irvine, Calif. native then started all three games against UMBC over the weekend, posting a 2-0 record with 10 strikeouts in 14 innings. Cukrov received plenty of run support as the Stony Brook offense churned out 34 runs, including 29 in a doubleheader on Saturday, which set a new program record for most runs scored on a single day against a conference opponent.

With two shutouts last week, Cukrov tied Stony Brook's single-season shutout record with 11, which is currently good for the third most in the nation. Cukrov also ranks fourth in the country in hits allowed per seven innings (3.84) and sixth overall in ERA (1.05). In addition, the freshman leads the America East in wins (17), shutouts, ERA and strikeouts (139).

Cukrov has also won 13 consecutive games to improve her record to 17-4 this season. Over that stretch, Cukrov has allowed only eight earned runs and has held opponents to a paltry .143 batting average.

The Seawolves return to action Tuesday with a doubleheader against Rutgers at 2 p.m.
