April 18, 2012

LIVE STATS: Game One | Game Two

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team will look to return to its winning ways on Thursday when Bryant pays a visit to University Field for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The Seawolves have won eight of 12 games at home this season with the only four losses coming to teams from the Big 12 (Texas Tech) and Big East (Rutgers). Today's doubleheader will be the first time Stony Brook and Bryant have ever squared off on the softball field.

Bryant
The Bulldogs enter today's twin-bill with a 13-19 record after defeating cross-state rival Providence on Tuesday, 9-6. Offensively, Bryant is led by Aubrey Mable, who leads the team with six home runs and 22 RBI, while batting a robust .355. The Bulldogs feature two prominent pitchers in Jennifer Jacob and Brittany Hart, both of whom have thrown over 97 innings. Bryant is 1-1 vs. teams from the America East this season after splitting with Boston University (3-2 win and 13-3 loss).

Last Time Out
The Seawolves (27-11) lost a pair of games to Rutgers on Tuesday, falling 4-0 and 6-1 at University Field. Freshman Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) went 5-for-5 on the day and accounted for the Seawolves' lone RBI in the second game. The opener was a pitchers-duel between a pair of freshmen: Rutgers' Alyssa Landrith and Stony Brook's Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.). The game remained scoreless into the seventh inning, when Brittney Lindley hit a two-out grand-slam over the centerfield wall to put Rutgers up 4-0. Cukrov finished with seven strikeouts and allowed six hits, while Landrith whiffed two, but walked only one.
