Fairfield, Conn. - The Stony Brook softball team will take a break from conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Sacred Heart for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The Seawolves have won nine of their last 12 games and own a 31-11-1 record this season.
Last Time Out
The Seawolves posted a 2-0-1 record against Maine over the weekend, winning 3-0 and 1-0 on Saturday and tying 1-1 on Sunday as rain forced the game to a close after seven innings. Freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) tossed 18 scoreless innings against the Black Bears and broke the record for most shutouts in a single season with her 12th and 13th scoreless outings on Saturday.
Leading Lady
In her first season as a Seawolf, Cukrov has put up some eye-popping statistics. Currently, the Irvine, Calif. native leads the America East in wins (20), appearances (31), ERA (1.09), innings pitched (173.1) and strikeouts (169), while being named America East Pitcher of the Week four times.
Hit Parade
Senior Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y.) is having a career season at the plate in 2012. Karath currently leads the America East with 54 hits and is tied for the league lead with four triples. In addition, Karath ranks fourth in batting average (.367) and fifth in stolen bases (14).
Sacred Heart
The Pioneers enter Wednesday's doubleheader with a 17-30 record. Sacred Heart has struggled of late, losing nine of its last 10 games, including a pair of contests against St. Francis (Pa.) this past weekend. Junior Nicole Sidor leads the Pioneers with nine home runs and a .270 average. Sidor is also the team's primary pitcher, posting a 13-12 record with a 2.40 ERA and 162 strikeouts.
