Women's tennis falls to UMBC, 5-2

Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team fell to America East rival UMBC, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the UMBC tennis complex. Junior Nini Lagvilava (Tbilisi, Georgia) and freshman Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) each went 2-0 on the day.

UMBC opened the match by taking a closely contest doubles point. Lagvilava and Movchan won at the No 1. spot, 8-3 and UMBC won at the No. 3 position as it came down to the No. 2 spot which the Retrievers won in a tiebreak.

Lagvilava and Movchan won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, but UMBC won at the other four singles positions to earn the victory. Movchan won in straight sets while Lagvilava won in three sets.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday, hosting NJIT.
