Baseball welcomes UMBC for three-game weekend series

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Winners of 22 of its last 25 games, the first-place Stony Brook baseball team hosts the UMBC Retrievers in its final home series of the regular season. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Senior Evan Stecko-Haley (Coral Springs, Fla.) fired a three-hit shutout and the Stony Brook University baseball team scored six runs over the first three innings on its way to an 8-0 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats in the rubber game of a three-game series on Sunday at Joe Nathan Field.

Seawolves News & Notes
The Seawolves (36-11, 14-3 AE) are in first place in the America East with seven conference games remaining ... Stony Brook is 18-2 at Joe Nathan Field this season ... Junior centerfielder Travis Jankowski was named to the Golden Spikes award 60-man watch list by USA Baseball last Tuesday ... the award is given annually to the top amateur player in the nation ... Jankowski is tied for the national lead with nine triples and is tied for the America East lead in batting average (.379) with teammate Maxx Tissenbaum ... he is also 11th in the nation with 30 stole bases ... it is the second straight season that the Seawolves have had a player named to 60-man midseason watch list as former All-American Nick Tropeano was named last season ... the Seawolves lead the nation in WHIP (1.11), are second in fielding percentage (.981), third in triples (29) and fourth in ERA (2.66) and batting average (.326) ... Stecko-Haley was named America East Pitcher of the Week for the third time on Monday ... in addition, freshman Cole Peragine earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Scouting UMBC
The Retrievers (10-36, 2-16 AE) dropped three of four to Hartford last weekend are currently in last place in the America East. Brian Klukowicz leads the America East in on-base percentage (.468) and is fourth in batting average (.369). The Retrievers pitching staff is giving up almost nine runs per game.
