About the Game
The two remaining undefeated teams in America East play square off for first place in the league Saturday when Stony Brook hosts Hartford. Both teams have been hot of late; the Seawolves have won seven of their last nine, and the Hawks have won five of their last six. This is the 26th all-time meeting between the two teams, and although Hartford leads the series 13-12, it's been all Seawolves the last four years as they've won eight straight over the Hawks. Here in Stony Brook, the Seawolves are 6-5 all-time against Hartford.
Scouting Hartford
The Hawks are on the rise after a disastrous 0-13 start to the 2011-12 season. They ended last year 7-9 in conference and advanced to the America East semifinals. Then they carried it over into 2012-13, turning in the program's best 16-game start in 16 seasons with records of 10-6 overall and 3-0 in AE play. Hartford lives and dies with three pointer, leading the conference in makes (8.3/gm) and attempts (22.6/gm). When the team makes seven more treys, it is 9-3 this season, 1-3 when it doesn't. Mark Nwakamma leads the team, averaing 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds, and Yolnozo Moore (46.4%), Evan Cooper (45.2%) Wes Cole (36.9%) and Nate Sikma (32.8%) are the team's three-point sharpshooters.
Last Time Out
The Seawolves once again turned in a magnificent defensive effort, holding Binghamton to season lows of 26.4% shooting and 37 points scored, and the Stony Brook offense used a 30-7, second-half run to propel itself to a 62-37 road win over the Bearcats. The Seawolves were paced by Jameel Warney, who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and the team got outstanding bench performances from Marcus Rouse, who had 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds, and Leonard Hayes, who had 11 points and four boards.
