About the Game
Red-hot Stony Brook, winner of nine of its last 11 games, goes on the road to face Vermont with first place in America East on the line. This is a rematch of last season's America East Championship final and a battle between this year's top two preseason favorites. It's also a matchup of the conference's top two teams over the last few seasons. Stony Brook is 22-3 in its last 25 conference games; Vermont is 20-5. This is the 26th all-time meeting, and the Catamounts lead the series 19-6, but the series is even 4-4 since the start of the 2009-10 season.
Scouting Vermont
The Catamounts were the preseason pick by the America East coaches after winning last season's tournament title. Vermont once again has been dominant on defense, holding teams to an average of 58 points per game and 40.2% field goal shooting, both second best to Stony Brook. The Catamounts score the second-least points in the league, but they are balanced with seven players averaging between six and 10 points per game. All seven of them have led Vermont in scoring at least once this season. Luke Apfeld is the team's leading scorer at 10.3 points per game, but he is currently sidelined with an injury. Vermont has won 10 consecutive home conference games.
Last Time Out
Stony Brook suffocated Boston University on defense, holding the Terriers to a season-low 29.8% shooting percentage, including a stretch of 12:45 without a field goal as the Seawolves went on to rout BU 75-48. Dave Coley scored a game-high 21 points, matching his career high. He also had four steals. Tommy Brenton (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Jameel Warney (12 points, 14 rebounds) each had double-doubles. Stony Brook shot 52.7% as a team and connected on nine three-pointers. The Seawolves outrebounded the Terriers 40-30 and outscored them in the paint 30-10.
