Cambridge, Mass. – Six members of the Stony Brook softball team were honored by the America East as All-Conference performers, the conference announced Wednesday. Freshman Alexandra Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) headlined the group as a first-team All-America East selection and an All-Rookie pick.
Three Seawolves were honored as second-team performers: sophomore Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.), sophomore Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) and junior Christine Lucido (Melville, N.Y.), while freshman Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) joined Pisciotta on the All-Rookie squad. Sophomore Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) was also represented as an All-Academic selection.
Pisciotta, who made the first team at the utility position, is hitting .327 with three home runs in 39 games while splitting time at catcher and designated player. One of four freshmen on the America East first team, Pisciotta recorded 11 of her 16 RBI in conference games and posted a .396 batting average in America East play during the regular season.
Green leads the team with seven home runs and 31 RBI, while slugging an impressive .601. The conference leader in doubles (18) and total bases (95), Green was named the America East Player of the Week on Monday after hitting .417 with six extra-base hits in six wins last week.
A second-team All-Conference performer in 2012, Giosia is hitting .317 with five homers and 29 RBI this season. Giosia has started all 53 games and leads the team with 57 hits and 30 runs. Giosia is tied for the team lead with eight stolen bases and owns a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 54 putouts and two outfield assists.
Lucido leads all America East pitchers with an .846 winning percentage (11-2 record). Sporting a sparkling 2.09 ERA (2.05 in conference play), Lucido struck out 53 batters in 110.1 innings during the regular season. Lucido also saved three games and recorded one shutout in 31 regular season appearances.
An All-Rookie performer, Sallen owns an 8-7 record with a 3.08 ERA in her first season with the Seawolves. Sallen led all Stony Brook pitchers with a .247 opponent batting average during the regular season and paced the staff with a 4-1 record and a 1.12 ERA in America East play.
