Stony Brook hosts New Hampshire to open conference play

Oct. 3, 2014

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The #Seawolves open America East play on Saturday when they host the New Hampshire Wildcats at 4 p.m.

Scouting New Hampshire

Saturday will serve as New Hampshire’s conference opener after the Wildcats recorded a 4-4-1 non-conference record. The Wildcats’ .97 goals against average ranks second in the America East. Offensively, they are led by sophomore Jesus Tudela, who is tied-for-second in the America East with three assists, and senior David Schlatter, who leads the team in points and goals with five and two, respectively. They enter Saturday’s matchup 2-0-1 in their last three contests.

All-Time Series

The Seawolves are 4-5-5 all-time versus the Wildcats. They dropped last season’s matchup 2-1 despite receiving a goal from senior Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.).

America East Sweep

Stony Brook’s Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) and Thibault Duval (Grace Hollogne, Belgium) swept the America East weekly awards last week. Giordano was named the Player of the Week, his third America East weekly award and second Player of the Week, after scoring a goal in both of Stony Brook’s matches with Sacred Heart and Northeastern. Duval earned Rookie of the Week for his sensational outing against Sacred Heart. His two goal and two assist performance against the Pioneers in the Seawolves 4-2 win were the most points by a Seawolf since Chris Megaloudis had eight on four goals against Philadelphia University in 2005.

Here Come the Goals

Stony Brook entered last week with four goals in its first seven matches but exploded for six total goals in its two games last week. They now sit tied-for-third in the conference in goals with 10 behind only UMBC and Vermont. They also lead the conference with 14 assists. Duval paces the squad with three assists, which is tied-for second in the conference. His seven points are tied-for-third in the America East.
