Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook head men's lacrosse coach
Jim Nagle announced the Seawolves' 2015 roster on Thursday. The roster is made up of 38 talented student-athletes, including 14 upperclassmen.
Stony Brook will have the luxury of its starting attack and first midfield back, led by junior Brody Eastwood (Victoria, British Columbia), who totaled 40 goals for the second straight season. Senior Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.) led the team in points (31, 22) and junior Matt Schultz (Smithtown, N.Y.), who posted 11 goals and six assists in 2013, nearly tripled his freshman output with 26 goals and 24 assists as a sophomore.
Junior Challen Rogers (Coquitlam, British Columbia) tallied a team-best 30 assists last season in addition to 22 goals in the midfield. Junior Chris Hughes (Oceanside, N.Y.) had an outstanding sophomore season in which he posted career-highs of 23 goals and 17 assists. Senior Mike Andreassi (Holbrook, N.Y.) had 14 goals and seven assists for the second straight season.
Junior Jake Sichenzia (Sayville, N.Y.) and sophomores Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) and Ryan Bitzer (Riverhead, N.Y.) also return to bolster the offensive attack.
Of the 186 goals scored last season, the 2015 squad accounted for 175 of them. More than 95 percent of last year's squad's total output returns.
On the defensive end, senior Bryan Judge (Melville, N.Y.) is the most experienced close defenseman. Judge has played in 48 of a possible 49 games with 36 starts. He has 88 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers to his credit.
Junior Frank Lucatuorto (Stony Brook, N.Y.) made the transition down low as a sophomore and accounted for 29 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
Junior Dylan Curry (East Meadow, N.Y.) started his career as an offensive midfielder, but flourished as a sophomore at long-stick midfielder. Curry, who also saw time on the wing on face-offs, had 47 ground balls and added three goals.
Junior Lucas Rock (Bay Shore, N.Y.) returns as one of the starting short-stick defensive midfielders. Sophomore Mark Ellis (Garden City, N.Y.) will be one of the favorites to start as a defensive midfielder.
Senior Andrew Dorsey (Clifton Park, N.Y.) could figure into the mix at close defense.
Lucatuorto and sophomore Jay Lindsay (Burlington, Ontario) are among the incumbents to take the majority of the draws in the spring.
Sophomore Hayden Johnstone (Toronto, Ontario), a member of Team Finland at last summer's World Championships, was an America East all-rookie selection last year in goal. He posted an 11.97 goals against average and a .490 save percentage.
