Dover, Del. – Freshman Cydney Bowman recorded a career-high 14 kills, and junior Shelby Tietjen pitched in 10 kills as the Stony Brook volleyball team toppled Delaware State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14), Thursday night.
Junior Stephanie McFadden produced another solid hitting night, posting eight kills on 13 swings for a .462 hitting percentage. She assisted six of Stony Brook’s seven blocks.
Junior Nicole Vogel and senior Hannah Dolan split setting duties and dished 20 helpers and 15 helpers, respectively, as the Seawolves improved to 14-11 in 2014.
Delaware State fell to 1-21.

- Tietjen scored a kill to break a 16-16 tie in the first set. Slams by Bowman and Vogel followed as the Seawolves went ahead, 19-16. After the Hornets recorded a block to close to within 19-17, they committed consecutive errors. Courtney Scanlan scored a kill to cap the 6-1 spurt and put Stony Brook in front, 22-17. Delaware State scored two of the next three points, but back-to-back McFadden kills sent Stony Brook to a 25-19 victory.
- In the second frame, Tietjen was once again the spark plug for Stony Brook’s run. With the score even at 11 apiece, she scored a kill to give the Seawolves the lead, 12-11. McFadden followed with an ace, and DSU committed an attack error. Another Tietjen kill pushed the lead to four, 15-11. A pair of freshman kept the momentum in Stony Brook’s favor after a service error. First, Bowman hammered one home. Then, Melann Amory notched three straight kills to finish off a 7-1 run that gave Stony Brook 19-12 advantage.
- The Seawolves came out strong in the third set, staking a 12-8 lead. McFadden scored a kill and then teamed up with Tietjen for a pair of combo-stuffs as the Seawolves went up by seven, 15-8. Dolan completed the 4-0 spurt with an ace, and Stony Brook never looked back, later clinching the match on Bowman’s 14th slam of the night.
