Stony Brook, N.Y. - Five #Seawolves landed on America East All-Conference teams, the conference office announced Friday. Juniors Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) and Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) headlined the group, earning spots on both the All-Conference second team and the America East All-Academic team. Stony Brook was the only school in the conference to have two players make both the All-Conference and All-Academic teams. Freshmen Thibault Duval (Grace Hollogne, Belgium), Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) and Danny Espinoza earned bids on the All-Rookie team.
Fritz and Giordano’s honors add to their already impressive resumes. The two leading scorers for the Seawolves this season, alongside Duval, were both named to the America East All-Rookie Team as freshmen. Giordano also garnered second-team honors and All-Academic honors last season as a sophomore. Fritz, who has split time at left back and left midfield this season, is tied-for-the team lead with eight points on three goals and two assists. He is the current career points leader on this Stony Brook team with 11 career goals and nine career assists. Giordano is tied with Fritz and Duval for the team lead in points and leads the Seawolves with four goals. He has notched nine career goals and seven career assists for his career.
Duval and Espinoza are tied for the team lead in assists and tied-for-third in the conference with four assists apiece, best among all freshmen. Duval has also netted two goals, putting his point total at eight, which trails only Albany’s Afonso Pinheiro for tops among freshmen. Erdei has been a stabilizing force in the Seawolves midfield, starting 17 contests and adding a defensive presence to the midfield triangle. He recorded an assist, his only point, in a win over Northeastern, and was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the SMU invitational.
Giordano earns his second All-Academic nod by carrying a 3.82 GPA. The mechanical engineering major is also a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honors Society. Fritz sports a cumulative GPA of 3.68 and was the recipient of the Undergraduate Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievement.
The Seawolves head upstate to take on Binghamton on Saturday at 6.pm. in the America East quarterfinal.
