FULL LIST OF HONOREES
Kansas City, Mo. - Sophomore Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) of the Stony Brook men's basketball team has been named first-team All District 1 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the organization announced Wednesday.
The NABC all-district teams are selected and voted on by member coaches, and all 252 selected student-athletes across the 25 districts are eligible for NABC Coaches' Division I All-America teams.
Warney, who also is the 2014 America East Player of the Year and a first-team All-America East selection, has enjoyed an outstanding season in helping lead Stony Brook to 23 victories so far this season. He has spent most of the season ranked in the top five in the nation in field goal percentage, leading the country for five straight weeks from Jan. 19 to Feb. 27. He currently is fourth at 63.0 percent.
Warney leads Stony Brook in scoring (14.6 PPG), rebounding (7.9 RPG) and blocks (36) and also is fifth in assists (64) and fourth in steals (25). He is sporting a 1.56 assist-to-turnover ratio this season. Earlier this season, he set a new #Seawolves Div. I record with 21 rebounds to go with a career-high 32 points in a win at Detroit. He also became the first Stony Brook player to ever record three consecutive double-doubles, which he did to open the season.
Warney and the #Seawolves are 23-9 this season and have advanced to the America East Championship final for the third time in the last four seasons. They will face Albany in the title game Saturday at sold-out Pritchard Gymnasium at 11:30 a.m., and it will be carried nationally on ESPN2.
