Stony Brook, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team came out with a tremendous amount of energy and toppled Kennesaw State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-19), Friday night at Pritchard Gymnasium.  The match was the first of three for Stony Brook in the Seawolves Invite Presented by Islandia Marriott Long Island.

Junior setter Nicole Vogel recorded a double-double on a match-high 35 helpers and 12 digs. Redshirt junior outside hitter Kathy Fletcher paced Stony Brook (5-7) with 12 kills, and classmate and libero Lo Hathaway led the contest with 13 digs.

The Seawolves hit .368, their best percentage of the season, and held Kennesaw State (5-7) to .157 hitting.

Head Coach Coley Pawlikowski’s Reaction

“I thought the energy in our gym tonight was awesome. Our goal was to come out hard and play one point at a time, and I think we did a good job of focusing on that and continuing to work as the match went on. I think we saw some of our best effort tonight from start to end and played a well-rounded match. I was proud of how aggressive and confident we played, and that is an exciting glimpse of what we will strive to do consistently.”

Recap

The Owls cut the deficit to five, 21-16, with a 4-0 run, but Stony Brook scored four of the last seven points of the match, icing the victory on another Slaughter kill.
