Cambridge, Mass. – For the second week in a row, the Stony Brook volleyball team can boast of having the America East Player and Setter of the Week. Redshirt junior Kathy Fletcher was named Player of the Week, and junior Nicole Vogel was the league’s top setter. Fletcher and Vogel helped the Seawolves to a four-set triumph at Hartford in their conference opener Friday night.
Fletcher tied a season high and led the match with 18 kills to go along with 12 digs for her first double-double of the season. The West Chicago, Ill, native hit an impressive .304 and added a match-leading three aces and three stuffs to her balanced stat line. She currently paces the team and is fourth in the conference in kills at 2.88 per set.
This is the first Player of the Week honor of Fletcher’s career.
Vogel, who hails from Costa Mesa, Calif., earned her second straight Setter of the Week accolade. She tallied season and match bests of 49 assists and 22 digs, marking her fourth double-double of 2014. Vogel helped three players hit over .300 in junior Stephanie McFadden (.421), Gillie (.333) and Fletcher (.304) and three reach double-figure kills in Fletcher (18), McFadden (11) and Rigo (10).
The Seawolves host Manhattan Wednesday at 7 p.m. and conference foe UMBC Friday at 7 p.m.
