Live Video Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men’s soccer team (0-2) will bid for its first win of the season on Friday night when it hosts Lehigh (2-0) in its home opener at 7 p.m.
Scouting Lehigh A week into the 2014 season the Mountain Hawks have already matched their win total from all of 2013. Wins over Manhattan and Monmouth should give Lehigh confidence after recording a 2-14-1 record in 2013. The Hawks attack was non-existent last year scoring just five goals in 17 games. This has been anything but the case in 2014, as they have scored four goals in just 180 minutes of soccer. Junior Jamie Luchini, who led Lehigh in goals last year with two, has already equaled that total by scoring goals in each of its first two games. The offense isn’t the only unit to start fast in 2014. Incredibly, the Mountain Hawks held a very strong Monmouth side to just two shots the entire contest en route to a shutout victory.
Last Meeting The Seawolves handled Lehigh 3-0 last year.
Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.),
Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) and
Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary), the goal scorers from a year ago, will all try to rekindle the magic in Friday’s match. The Mountain Hawks outshot Stony Brook 25-10 for the match, but couldn’t beat Stony Brook keeper
Carlos Villa who made nine saves. Stony Brook leads the all-time series between the schools with a 2-1-1 record.
Youthful Bunch Seven players have made their Stony Brook debuts through the first two games, while six of them have been regulars in the starting lineup. Newcomers
Fernando Wadskier (Valencia, Venezuela),
Jevaughn Vance (Arima, Trinidad),
Thibault Duval (Grace Hollogne, Belgium),
Barnabas Mako (Budapest, Hungary) and
Danny Espinoza (East Meadow, N.Y.) have all started both games and
Akeem Morris (Elmont, N.Y.) has appeared in both matches off the bench.
