Tipoff: The Stony Brook men's basketball team will begin a stretch of four games in eight days beginning at Maine on Saturday afternoon. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m. and can be seen live on AmericaEast.tv.
Last Time Out: Junior Carson Puriefoy (Wenonah, N.J.) had 15 points in a balanced scoring effort as the Stony Brook men's basketball team topped UMBC, 64-54, Wednesday evening at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
Puriefoy had 13 of his 15 points in the second half.
Redshirt freshman Roland Nyama (Frankfurt, Germany) scored 12 points, including 10 in the first half.
Sophomore Kameron Mitchell (Jacksonville, Fla.) and juniors Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) and Rayshaun McGrew (Chicago, Ill.) had nine points apiece.
Warney and McGrew each grabbed 11 rebounds and Warney, passing out of numerous double teams, had a career-high eight assists.
The Seawolves (11-7, 2-1 America East) hit seven three-pointers, their most since making nine at Washington on December 28.
Wayne Sparrow led UMBC (2-14, 0-3) with a game-high 17 points. Cody Joyce and Malcolm Brent had 13 points apiece.
Opponent: Despite seven three pointers from Zarko Valjarevic, Maine dropped its fourth straight conference games, losing 62-59 to UMass Lowell. The Black Bears have not won since beating Wagner on December 2. Till Gloger, Shaun Lawton and Valjarevic each average more than 10 points. Gloger has posted a team-high 11.8 ppg.
Series: Stony Brook and Maine have played 32 times, with the series tied at 16. The Seawolves have won eight straight over the Black Bears in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season.
