Stony Brook hosts Sacred Heart in Tuesday night clash

The Stony Brook volleyball team will square off with Sacred Heart in a non-conference match Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Pritchard Gymnasium. The Seawolves will look to remain undefeated against the Pioneers in the Division I era. The two schools are separated by just 32 miles with use of the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry.

Last Time Out
Stony Brook went 1-1 last weekend with a sweep at Hartford and a three-set loss at New Hampshire. Senior Nicole Vogel tallied 39 assists and 12 digs in Friday’s sweep.

Scouting the Pioneers
Sacred Heart is 12-7 and 6-1 in the NEC, tied with Bryant for first place in the conference standings. The Pioneers had a six-match winning streak snapped by LIU Brooklyn Saturday before a sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn Sunday.

Sarah Krufka leads the Pioneers with 3.57 kills/set, while Krufka and Katie Direnzo are tied for the team lead at a .321 hitting percentage. The Pioneers are holding opponents to a .197 hitting percentage on the year.

The Last Time We Met
Stony Brook is 5-0 against Sacred Heart in the Division I era, incluing a three-set win in Fairfield Oct. 7, 2014. Kathy Fletcher hit .343 with 14 kills and 20 digs in the victory.

Ace of Base
Senior Stephanie McFadden ranks fourth nationally with 0.56 aces/set. As a team, the Seawolves are 31st in the nation with 1.61 aces/set.

Boston Calling
The Seawolves have garnered an America East weekly award seven times in the season’s first eight weeks. Morgan Kath was named Setter of the Week Aug. 31 and Sept. 28 and Rookie of the Week Sept. 21, while McKyla Brooks earned Rookie of the Week honors Sept. 8 and Sept. 28, Nicole Vogel was tabbed as Setter of the Week Sept. 5 and Kathy Fletcher was honored as Player of the Week Oct. 12.

The Freshmen
Freshman Morgan Kath leads America East in assists/set with 9.13. McKyla Brooks has recorded a .283 hitting percentage so far this year, good for third in America East and first among conference freshmen.

Big Dig
Senior Lo Hathaway broke the Seawolves’ program record for digs Sept. 5 vs. Holy Cross, passing Jessica Serrano with the 1,531st of her Stony Brook career.

New York State of Mind
The Seawolves have defeated eight New York State opponents since Coach Pawlikowski took over in 2013 (Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Columbia, Fordham, Manhattan, St. Francis Brooklyn, Syracuse). The Seawolves added Columbia to the list Sept. 18.

Decorations for Your Mantel
Three Seawolves earned all-tournament honors during nonconference play. Kathy Fletcher was named to the team at the Penn State Classic, Nicole Vogel at the Fairfield Invite and Stephanie McFadden at the Seawolves Invite.

Up Next: Delaware State, UMBC
The Seawolves will play a non-conference match against Delaware State Friday at 7 p.m. before resuming America East play with a match at UMBC Sunday at 1 p.m.
