Hanover, N.H. - Sophomore Elizabeth Tsvetkov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) advanced to the round of 16 to lead the Stony Brook women's tennis team at the USTA/ITA Regionals at Dartmouth.
Tsvetkov, who received a bye in the first round, defeated Yale's ReeRee Li, 6-4, 6-1, and upset Harvard's Anika Ringblom, 6-2, 7-5. She won the first set against Cornell's Marika Cusick, 6-1, but fell in three sets.
Junior Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) rallied after losing the first set to Massachusetts' Ruth Crawford to tie the match at a set apiece, but fell 6-4 in the third.
Senior Louise Badoche (Paris, France) and sophomore Yana Nikolaeva (Thornhill, Ontario) each lost in straight sets in the main draw.
Badoche and Smergut advanced to the round of 16 with wins over Connecticut and Seton Hall. The duo defeated the Huskies, 8-7 (5), and the Pirates, 8-5.
Tsvetkov and Nikolaeva dropped an 8-5 decision to Zofia Stanisz and Natalia Vavulina of St. John's.
The Seawolves will open the spring season with matches against Army West Point and Connecticut at West Point on February 5 & 6.
