Durham, N.H. - The Stony Brook men’s soccer team (4-4-2, 1-0-0 AE) will face a stiff test on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they head north to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats (7-1-2, 1-0-0, AE) at 7 p.m.

Scouting New Hampshire

The Wildcats are receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches Poll and have the best RPI in the America East Conference, coming in at No. 41. New Hampshire lost its first game of the season on Tuesday, falling to Harvard 1-0. Like the Seawolves, the Wildcats got off on the right foot in conference play, defeating UMass Lowell 3-1. New Hampshire is tied with UMBC for the conference lead in goals with 18 in 10 matches. Chris Wingate leads the team with four goals and two assists, while Ben Ramin has added three goals and an assist. Freshman Chris Arling leads the team with four assists. Defensively, the Wildcats lead the conference in goals allowed, conceding just eight times in 10 matches. Goalkeeper Ryan Carpenter has three shutouts and leads the league with a .83 goals against average.

Duval’s Dramatics

Sophomore Thibault Duval’s (Grace Hollogne, Belgium) first goal of the season pocketed the Seawolves three points in their conference opener vs. Albany last Saturday. Duval’s opportunity to win the match came with just 26 seconds remaining in the final overtime period, and the diminutive midfielder made no mistake, burring the chance over the goalkeeper’s shoulder.

Overtime Heroics

Stony Brook is now 2-0 in overtime games this season. Duval joined sophomore Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) as the overtime goal scorers this season. Erdei’s goal vs. Marist lifted the Seawolves to a 2-1 victory on Sep. 16.

Martin the Magician

Senior forward Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) has been one of the top players in the America East Conference since his freshman season in 2012. Giordano, an America East All-Rookie selection and two-time second team all-conference honoree, has saved his best season for last, however. His goal on Saturday set career-high’s in goals (5) and points (13). He currently sits fourth in the conference in both categories.

Fritz Continues to Assist

Senior midfielder Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) regained the conference lead in assists with his fifth of the season in Saturday’s win over Albany. He is only one assist shy of his career-high, which he set as a freshman in 2012. Saturday’s assist moved him to tied-for-4th on the school’s all-time career assist list.
