Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Senior Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) of the Stony Brook men's basketball team was one of 30 mid-major players named to the Lou Henson All-America Team, CollegeInsider.com announced Tuesday.
Warney has enjoyed a slew of preseason national awards, including top-100 rankings by NBCSports.com and CBSSports.com and one of NCAA.com's 10 under-the-radar seniors.
A Mid-Major Madness preseason All-American, Warney was one of 17 players last year to average a double-double, accounting for 16.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. The reigning two-time America East Player of the Year led Division I with 24 double-doubles and 409 total rebounds.
Warney is 133 points away from breaking Bryan Dougher's Division I program record of 1,609 points and 198 rebounds from breaking Tommy Brenton's school record of 1,118.
Warney is a candidate for the Karl Malone Award, given to the nation's top power forward.
Stony Brook opens the 2015-16 season Saturday against USMMA at 7 p.m.
