Fletcher, Vogel, Brooks earn 2015 AE honors

Durham, N.H. - Three members of the Stony Brook volleyball team garnered America East honors for the 2015 regular season, as announced at the America East Championship banquet Thursday evening on the University of New Hampshire campus.

Senior Kathy Fletcher (West Chicago, Ill.) was named an America East first-team all-conference selection. It is the second-consecutive year Fletcher has earned all-conference honors, as the Seawolf outside hitter was a second-team selection in 2014. Fletcher led America East during the regular season with 3.55 kills/set and has elevated her play down the stretch, averaging 3.96/set since October 4. Fletcher’s 394 total kills entering the America East Championship lead the conference by a margin of 75.

Senior Nicole Vogel (Costa Mesa, Calif.) earned a America East second-team all-conference selection. It is the second-consecutive season Vogel has earned second-team all-conference honors. The Seawolf senior also earned all-rookie recognition in 2012. Vogel has split the 2015 season between setter and defensive specialist, earning two America East Setter of the Week awards while averaging 10.17 assists/set since October 4. Vogel has also posted double-digit digs 15 times this season.

Vogel was also selected to the America East All-Academic Team. The senior engineering science major holds a 3.38 cumulative GPA, is a five-time Dean’s List honoree has been named to the America East honor roll twice and also earned a spot on the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2013.

Freshman McKyla Brooks (Blasdell, N.Y.) was named to the America East All-Rookie Team for her play in her first year at Stony Brook. Brooks led conference freshmen during the regular season with a .279 hitting percentage and 0.73 blocks/set while recording 2.55 kills/set. 2015 is the second-consecutive year with a Seawolf on the All-Rookie Team, as Cydney Bowman (Lake Mary, Fla.) was selected to last year’s team.

The Seawolves return to action in the first semifinal of the America East Championship Friday at 4 p.m. against Albany in Durham, N.H.
