Seawolves Sweep Weekly Awards

Nov. 2, 2015

Boston - The Stony Brook men’s soccer team (7-6-3, 3-2-1 AE) swept the conference awards after a 2-0 week. Sophomore Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) was named the co-America East Player of the Week, scoring a combined three goals in Stony Brook’s two wins over No. 17 Hofstra and Binghamton. Freshman Serge Gamwanya (Kinshasa, Congo) garnered America East Rookie of the Week, finishing the week with a goal and two assists.

Erdei netted Stony Brook’s first two goals in its win over the Pride, the highest-ranked opponent the Seawolves have ever beaten. He followed it up with an overtime goal over the Bearcats on Saturday to clinch a spot for the Seawolves in the America East Playoffs.

The man setting up Erdei’s winning-goal vs. Binghamton was Gamwanya, who sent the game into overtime just minutes earlier with his third goal of the season. He also assisted on Erdei’s first goal in the win over Hofstra.

After his three goal week, Erdei ranks second in the conference with eight goals and 20 points. Gamwanya leads all freshmen in the conference with 11 points on three goals and five assists. It is Erdei's first conference award and Gamwanya's second Rookie of the Week.
