Stony Brook, N.Y.
- For the third time in the last four years, the fourth-seeded Stony Brook men’s soccer team (7-7-3, 3-3-1) will square off with the fifth-seeded Binghamton Bearcats in an America East Quarterfinal. The Seawolves defeated Binghamton in 2012, but were bounced from the tournament in penalty kicks in Vestal last season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Scouting Binghamton

The Bearcats sat atop the conference standings with two games remaining, but slid to the fifth seed after losses at Stony Brook and Albany to close their season. They are led by all-conference goalkeeper Robert Moewes, who was selected to the Preseason Hermann Trophy Watch List. He has lived up to the expectations, leading the conference in saves with 76. Pascal Trappe leads the Bearcats with five goals, followed by Zach Galluzzo’s three. Freshman Harrison Weilbacher leads the team with four assists. When the two teams met in the regular-season, Binghamton held a 1-0 lead for most of the contest until freshman Serge Gamwanya (Kinshasa, Congo) tied the match with three minutes remaining leading to sophomore Vince Erdei’s (Budapest, Hungary) overtime goal and a 2-1 Seawolves win.

Playoff Record

Under head coach Ryan Anatol, the Seawolves are 3-1-1 in conference tournament play, losing the only tie to Binghamton in penalty kicks. The Seawolves are 6-4-4 all-time in the America East Tournament. In its four ties, they have ended up victorious in three via penalty kicks.

Late Game Heroics

The Seawolves have been very good in close games this season. In matches decided by a goal or less they are 6-3-3, including a perfect 3-0 in overtime games. Erdei has been the catalyst behind their success in tight games, scoring two overtime goals and leading the conference with four game-winning goals.

Home Sweet Home

The Seawolves have been very difficult at home this season, owning a 5-1-3 record at LaValle Stadium. They are 4-0-2 over their last six home games.

Defense Wins Championships

The trend for Stony Brook continues. When the Seawolves allow less than two goals they are 7-0-3. When they allow two or more goals they are 0-7. The good news for Stony Brook is Binghamton ranked seventh in the conference in goals per game and only scored two or more goals on five occasions.
