Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team (19-12, 5-1 AE)  heads to Maine for a conference series vs. the Maine Black Bears (15-15, 4-2 AE) this weekend, trying to extend on a season-high six-game winning streak.
Scouting the Black Bears
The Black Bears are fresh off a sweep of Umass Lowell last weekend and currently occupy third place in the America East standings. They are led by senior pitcher Alexis Bogdanovich (9-4), who has won the America East Pitcher of the Week award four times this season and leads the conference in era (1.87) and strikeouts (108). Felicia Lennon paces the team with 32 hits and a .337 batting average. Emj Fogel is batting .333, while Erika Leonard is hitting .330 with three home runs and 16 rbi.
Climbing the Record Book
Senior outfielder Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) is on pace for a record-setting senior season. She currently leads the America East in home runs (15), rbi (40), slugging pct. (1.000), batting average (.433) and total bases (97). Not only is she among the America East statistical leaders, but she also ranks highly in many national rankings. Her .48 home runs/game is currently fifth best in the country, while her slugging pct is 9th. She is just two home runs shy of tying the Stony Brook single-season home run record (17) and 10 rbi shy of the school's single season rbi mark (50).
Power Up
The Stony Brook offense has posted impressive power numbers through the first half of the season., ranking first in the America East in home runs (41) and slugging pct. (.502). They have hit 35 home runs in their last 22 games and rank 27th in the nation with an average of 1.32 home runs per game. The 2015 Seawovles are just 7 home runs shy of breaking the single season team home run record (47) with 12 games remaining in the regular season. They have hit a home run in 20 of their last 22 games. Green leads the conference with 14 home runs, while senior Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) ranks second with eight. Nine different players have registered a home run this season.
Not So Plain Jane
Junior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) is 6-0 in her last eight appearances. Her victory over Hofstra Thursday set a new career-high for wins in a season with 12.
