Ahmad Walker to transfer back to Stony Brook

May 4, 2015

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Ahmad Walker, who earned America East All-Rookie honors as a freshman at Stony Brook, has accepted a grant-in-aid offer and will transfer back to the University, head coach Steve Pikiell announced Monday.

"I'm so excited to welcome Ahmad back to the Seawolves family," Pikiell said. "He wanted to finish what he started and we couldn't be happier."

Walker will return to Stony Brook after a standout sophomore season at Barton Community College in Kansas. He led the Cougars to a 24-7 record and a berth in the Region VI playoffs. Walker averaged a Jayhawk West Conference-best 20.6 points per game and a team-high 7.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.

He registered 10 double-doubles and eclipsed the 20-point mark 15 times, including three games of at least 30 points. During a five-game stretch from January 12 to February 4, Walker averaged 26.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.

Walker led coach Craig Fletchall's squad to a No. 21 ranking in the NJCCA Division I national poll. Despite being picked seventh in the conference in the preseason, the Cougars finished third with a 12-4 league record.

Barton registered a win over No. 7 Butler and swept the season series against No. 23 Hutchinson.

Walker became Barton's fourth All-American in the last eight seasons and was named Jayhawk West Conference and Region VI MVP. In just one season, he ranks third all-time in a single season in free throws made (190) and free throws attempted (253) in Barton history.

As a freshman at Stony Brook, Walker garnered All-Rookie honors after starting 31 games with season averages of 7.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Walker scored in double figures seven times, including a career-high 22 points against Maine.

Walker will have two seasons of eligibility left.
