Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men’s soccer team swept the America East weekly awards after posting a 1-0 victory over Central Connecticut State in last Friday’s season opener. Freshman Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad), the game’s lone goal scorer, racked up Rookie of the Week honors, while redshirt junior Jason Orban (Manorville, N.Y.) earned Co-Player of the Week with UMBC’s Gregg Hauck.
Watson logged 90 minutes in central midfield in his collegiate debut, finishing with a team-high four shots. His second-half goal was the difference maker, propelling the Seawolves to victory.
Orban made sure Watson’s goal would stand, making five saves in the match for his third career shutout. He made a diving stop on CCSU’s Ben Knight’s free kick early in the first half, then made two pivotal stops in the game’s final five minutes to preserve the shutout victory.
The Seawolves are back in action tonight vs. Sacred Heart at LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m.
