Well Qualified to Represent the LBC
The Stony Brook volleyball team travels to California for four matches at the LBSU/LMU Mizuno Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Seawolves will face Oakland and Central Arkansas in neutral-site matches Friday at Loyola Marymount before playing at Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount Saturday.
Scouting the Grizzlies
Oakland enters the weekend at 1-5 after going 0-3 at a weekend invitational hosted by Kent State. The Grizzlies fell to Albany, Indiana State and Kent State. Oakland's one victory on the season came against George Washington Aug. 29 at Michigan.
Cassie Pelloni leads Oakland with 2.82 kills/set, while the Grizzlies have been held to a .185 team hitting percentage. Sammy Condon (0.75) and Amanda Baker (0.58) have led the way on the block for Oakland.
Scouting the Sugar Bears
Central Arkansas enters the weekend at 1-5 after an 0-3 weekend at Oklahoma, falling to North Texas, Little Rock and the host Sooners. The lone win on the year so far for the Sugar Bears was a five-set triumph over Nebraska-Omaha Aug. 29.
Heather Schnars has tallied a team-high 3.58 kills/set for the Sugar Bears, who are hitting .171 as a team. Amy South leads the way with 9.15 assists/set, while Savannah Allen has recorded 1.23 blocks/set.
Scouting the 49ers
Long Beach State is 4-2 entering a Thursday night match at Loyola Marymount that will kick off the weekend invitational. The 49ers went 2-1 last weekend, defeating Rutgers and host Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Nele Barber leads the 49ers with 3.65 kills/set, while Ashley Murray is hitting a team-leading .415. Jenelle Hudson leads Long Beach State with 10.43 assists/set, while Mykah Wilson has recorded a team-best 3.74 digs/set.
Scouting the Lions
Loyola Marymount is 3-2 entering Thursday's match against Long Beach State. The Lions went 2-1 last weekend with wins over Liberty and Houston Baptist at Northern Arizona. The Lions swept No. 20 UCLA on Aug. 30.
Jamie Lea leads the Lions with 4.56 kills/set, while Rachelle Suaava is hitting a team-best .339. Hannah Tedrow lwads the Lions with 12.44 assists/set, while Sarah Sponcil has recorded a team-leading 3.45 digs/set.
Boston Calling
The Seawolves have garnered an America East weekly award in each of the season's first two weeks. Morgan Kath was named Setter of the Week Aug. 31, while McKyla earned Rookie of the Week honors Sept. 8.
California Love
Two members of the Seawolves return to their home state for this weekend's matches. Seniors Stephanie McFadden (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Nicole Vogel (Costa Mesa, Calif.) are both natives of Orange County.
Nicole World
Senior Nicole Vogel was named to the all-tournament team at the Fairfield Invite. She joins Kathy Fletcher as Seawolves to earn an all-tournament nod this fall, as Fletcher received the honor at the Penn State Classic.

The Seawolves play their next three matches at home as part of the Seawolves Invite Presented by Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook. The Seawolves will host Rhode Island, Army West Point and Columbia in the two-day event.
