Stony Brook, N.Y. - 2015 SCHEDULE
The Stony Brook men's basketball team, which won at least 22 games for a fourth straight year in 2014-15, unveiled its complete 2015-16 schedule, head coach Steve Pikiell announced Wednesday.
"I'm really excited about the competitive balance with our 2015-16 schedule," Pikiell said. "We're going to play eight teams that advanced to the postseason and eight teams that won at least 20 games, including Notre Dame, which had 32 wins. Eleven of our 13 non-conference opponents were picked to finish in the top half of their league and 12 of our opponents finished with a winning record."
The Seawolves will play a total of 29 regular season games, including 13 non-conference games starting with the United States Merchant Marine Academy on November 14. The Mariners are coached by Steve Hayn, who is one of 24 players to score 1,000 points in Stony Brook history.
Stony Brook will play three straight road games -- November 19 against Vanderbilt, a consensus preseason top-25 selection, November 21 vs. Western Kentucky and November 24 against Loyola Maryland.
The game against the Commodores will mark the second straight season that Stony Brook has faced an SEC opponent (Georgia). The Seawolves beat Western Kentucky and Loyola at home last season
Stony Brook returns home to host Farmingdale State on November 28 and Princeton on December 5.
The Seawolves, who tied a program-record with nine non-conference wins last season, will travel to face Notre Dame on December 8 in a game that will be televised live on ESPNU.
The road trip continues at Northeastern on December 12 and ends at American on December 17.
Stony Brook will host Long Island rival and preseason CAA favorite Hofstra on December 20 before heading back on the road to play Lehigh, picked to win the Patriot League by Athlon Sports.
The non-conference road schedule concludes at NJIT on December 28. Columbia marks the non-conference finale at home on January 2.
Stony Brook will open America East play at Binghamton on January 6. It will host Albany on January 22 and return to the Capital District on February 17. The Seawolves play at Vermont on January 30 and host the Catamounts for Senior Day on February 27.
Two-time America East Player of the Year Jameel Warney headlines a squad that advanced to the first round of the College Basketball Invitational last season. Warney (16.5 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 2.5 bpg) became the first player to lead his conference in points, rebounds and blocks since Bucknell's Mike Muscala in 2012-13.
Carson Puriefoy and Rayshaun McGrew, who each earned all-conference honors last season, join Warney to make up the senior triumvirate.
Stony Brook returns for their second season at Island Federal Credit Union Arena after posting a home record of 13-2 last season.
