Stony Brook heads to Villanova for Sunday clash

- Fresh off an overtime victory over Marist, the Stony Brook men’s soccer team (2-3-1) heads to Marist heads to Villanova to face the Wildcats. The two teams met last season at LaValle Stadium, with Villanova escaping as 1-0 victors.

Scouting Villanova

The Wildcats jumped into the NSCAA Coaches Poll top 25 after starting the season 3-0, but have since dropped out after consecutive losses to Monmouth and Temple. The Wildcats are led by junior forward Padraic McCullaugh and his four goals and three assists. Max Kroschwitz is second on the team with two goals and three assists, while Sean Sheridan has tallied two goals.

Seniors Leading the Way

Senior forward Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.), a second team All-America East performer a season ago, has already matched his point total from last year with three goals and two assists through just six games this season. With his three-point night, Giordano moved into second place in the America East in points, one behind Leo Melgar from Albany for the conference lead. 

Senior counterpart Alejandro Fritz took over the conference lead in assists with three, springing Giordano in Stony Brook’s overtime victory over Marist on Wednesday night. He is tied-for-8th in Stony Brook history with 12 career assists.

Two is the Magic Number

The Seawolves are 4-1-0 since the start of the 2014 season when scoring two or more goals. The lone defeat was a 3-2 overtime loss to Northeastern on Sep. 28, 2014.
