Stony Brook, N.Y.
- The Stony Brook men’s soccer team (2-4-1) looks to rebound from Sunday’s defeat at Villanova when they welcome the Buffalo Bulls (3-4-2) to town on Thursday, Sep. 24 at 7 p.m.

Scouting Buffalo

The Bulls sit 3-4-2 through their first nine games, but are 0-4-1 over their last five matches. After a 3-0-1 start, they reeled off four straight losses before tying Niagara 2-2 on Sunday. Eight of Buffalo’s 13 goals have come from Russell Cicerone and Scott Doney. Ciccerone paces the team with five goals and three assists, while Doney has added three goals and three assists. Marcus Hanson has a team-high five assists. The Bulls have not recorded a shutout in eight tries against a Division I opponent; their only clean sheet came in their season opener vs. Division II Seton Hill. The Seawolves are 5-6 all-time vs. Buffalo, winning the last meeting between the two schools 4-0 in 2012.

Home Comfort

LaValle Stadium will be a welcomed sight for the Seawolves on Thursday. Stony Brook is 2-1-1 on its home turf this season and 0-3 on the road. The Seawolves have allowed just three goals in four home matches and eight in three road matches.

Erdei’s Monster Week

Sophomore forward Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) had a huge week, collecting five points in the Seawolves two matches. Erdei entered the week with just one point through the first five matches, before erupting for a three-point night in Stony Brook’s 2-1 overtime win over Marist. Erdei set-up senior Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) with the game’s first goal then lifted Stony Brook to victory with an overtime goal, his first of the season. He also scored Stony Brook’s lone goal in its 2-1 defeat at Villanova on Sunday.

Gamwanya named Rookie of the Week

Freshman Serge Gamwanya (Kinshasa, Congo) was named the America East Rookie of the Week after recording assists in each of the Stony Brook men’s soccer team’s two games last week.

Gamwanya assisted on Stony Brook’s first goal in the Seawolves 2-1 overtime victory over Marist on Wednesday and then set up Vince Erdei’s (Budapest, Hungary) tally in Stony Brook’s 2-1 loss at Villanova.
