Stony Brook volleyball freshmen McKyla Brooks (Blasdell, N.Y.) and Morgan Kath (Muskego, Wis.) were both honored with America East weekly awards Monday, as Brooks was named conference Rookie of the Week and Kath earned the Setter of the Week award.
Brooks is America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, having also been tabbed for the award Sept. 8. This past week, Brooks hit .500 with 3.00 kills/set in sweeps of Fordham and UMBC. For the year, Brooks is hitting .296, good for second in America East and first among conference freshmen.
Kath earned her third conference award of her freshman campaign, as the Seawolf setter was named Setter of the Week Aug. 31 and Rookie of the Week Sept. 21 prior to her Setter of the Week award Monday. Kath tallied 11.00 assists/set during the Seawolves' 2-0 week and helped Stony Brook to a season-high .379 hitting percentage in Tuesday's sweep of Fordham. For the year, Kath has recorded a conference-leading 9.13 assists/set.
The Seawolves return to action Sunday, Oct. 4, with a 1 p.m. match at UMass Lowell.
