Louisville, Ky. - A slow start hampered the Stony Brook men's soccer team (1-1-1) as they fell to no. 15 Louisville 3-1 on Friday night.
The Cardinals would strike for two goals in the game's first 12 minutes to put the Seawolves immediately behind the eight-ball. They responded nicely, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at the half behind a goal from senior Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.), before eventually falling 3-1.
Highlights
- Tate Schmitt got the Cardinals off to a flying start with a 6th minute goal, beating Stony Brook goalkeeper Jason Orban (Manorville, N.Y.) with a shot from the top of the 18.
- Ben Strong struck in the 12th minute with a goal of his own, powering a header past Orban from close range.
- After the shaky start, the Seawolves settled down and started to play their way into the match. Giordano put the Seawolves on the board in the 21st minute, finishing a cross from fellow senior Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary).
- It took 49 minutes to see the game's next goal, which came off of the foot of Danny Reynolds, nailing down the 3-1 victory for Louisville.

- Louisville outshot the Seawolves 16-5 for the match.
- Orban made six saves in the loss.
- Freshman Serge Gamwanya (Kinshasa, Congo) paced Stony Brook's efforts with two shots.
