Atlanta, Ga. -
Senior Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) of the Stony Brook men's basketball team was named to the midseason watchlist for the Naismith Trophy, it was announced Thursday.
Warney is one of 35 players on the watchlist, which will be whittled down to 10 semifinalists on March 2.
The 6-8 forward leads the America East Conference in scoring (19.0), rebounding (10.7) and blocks (3.0). He's 46 points away from breaking Emeka Smith's school record of 1,978 points and 67 away from becoming the third player in conference history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Earlier this season, he became the third Division I player since 1994-95 to record 1,800 points, 1,100 rebounds, 230 blocks and 200 assists, joining Nick Collison of Kansas and Jason Thompson of Rider.
Warney is one of 10 finalists for the Karl Malone Award, given to the nation's premier power forward. He's also a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
