Stony Brook, N.Y. - Head men's soccer coach Ryan Anatol has added to his 2016 class, signing six more players in addition to Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) and Dela Agbotse (Accra, Ghana), who arrived on campus at the start of the semester. Currently, the class consists of four players from New York, one from Florida and three international players, and one goalkeeper, two defenders, four midfielders and a forward. "We are excited to announce these additional members of our 2016 class," said head coach Ryan Anatol. "This is a talented group of student-athletes with great character and ambition, who will proudly represent Stony Brook University. We expect this group to compliment our returning core in working to achieve excellence on the field and in the classroom. My staff and I look forward to working with them over the course of their careers."
Fr. 6-0 M Stephen Turnbull - Holtsville, N.Y. / Sachem East
Turnbull was a four-year letterwinner and team captain at Sachem East High School, winning Outstanding Offensive Player as a junior and Team MVP as a senior. Turnbull was an all-league and all-conference selection as a junior and an all-county and scholar-athlete selection as a senior. For his career, he netted 20 goals and added 22 assists.
Turnbull plays his club ball for the South Huntington Lightning, the top-ranked team in the nation in 2015, and is a U.S. Youth National League Player.
Fr. 6-3 GK Wojciech Gajda - Staten Island, N.Y. / Susan E. Wagner
Gajda, born in Poland, is a member of the New York Red Bulls Academy, playing on the U-16 Development Academy finalist team and the team that won the U-16 Generation Adidas Cup.
He currently starts for the U-18 USDA NY Redbulls team that is ranked 5th in the country. Gajda has also trained frequently with the New York Redbulls II USL team, and was included on the 18-man roster last season.
Fr. 6-4 F Ricardo Moncada Peon - Weston Fla. / Cypress Bay
Peon, born in Mexico, is the captain and starting forward for the Weston F.C. U.S. Soccer Development Academy, where he is second on the team in goals. A top student, he is an AP Scholar with Distinction, member of the National Forensic League and the Member of the Society of Hispanic Engineers Jr. Chapter at Cypress Bay High School, the same high school as Steven Ghitis and Martin Giordano.
Fr. 5-9 M Macdara Heanue - Garrison, N.Y. / Haldane
Heanue plays club soccer for Everton FC Westchester and was a part of the U-16 team that made the USDA Playoffs in 2015. He starred two seasons at Haldane High School where he scored 16 goals and was an all-league selection. He didn't play his final two years of high school due to Academy rules.
Fr. 5-10 D Christian Saint Louis - Valley Stream, N.Y. / Valley Stream Central
Saint Louis is an ODP Region I Team defender and was selected as an all-star at the Interregional Tournament. He won the NPL U-15 and U-16 National Championship with B.W. Gottschee and the Disney Cup with the HBC Titans. Chrisitan's BW Gottschee club is currently undefeated and ranked #1 in the country in the USDA. An honors student at Valley Stream Central, Saint Louis lettered two years in soccer, making the all-conference team in 2013.
6-2 D Lars Togstad - Trondheim, Norway
Togstad was a member of the Norwegian U-17 and U-18 National Teams, earning two caps, and is the team captain of Nardo F.K., where he played with 2015 America East Rookie of the Year Serge Gamwanya.
Togstad also played and captained Rosenborg BK, helping the club to the 2011 and 2012 Norwegian U-19 national championship. They advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Nextgen Series (European Champions League U-19) in both 2012 and 2013, playing against the likes of Liverpool and Dortmund. With Nardo FK, Lars has been selected as a top-11 player of the Arets lag 2 Divison (all conference team in Division II) and All- Trondheim city team for the last two years.
Stony Brook returns 19 letterwinners and eight starters from last year's team that finished fourth in the America East. The Seawolves open their spring season at Columbia on Apr. 2, the first of five games this spring.
