Stony Brook edges UMBC, 4-3

Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 win over UMBC Saturday at the Retriever Tennis Complex.

Despite losing the doubles point, the Seawolves (6-4) earned singles wins at No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 to capture the match.

Sophomore Yana Nikolaeva (Thornhill, Ontario) beat Madlena Kurasz, 6-2, 6-4, to start Stony Brook's singles charge.

Freshman Devanshi Bhimjiyani (Rajkot, India) won 7-5, 6-4 over Alice Taylor at No. 3.  Junior Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) rallied for a three-set victory over Shannon Cleary at No. 4.

Senior Becky Shtilkind (Brooklyn, N.Y.) topped Charlotte Tonjann, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.

Stony Brook hosts Long Island rival Hofstra Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m.
