Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team ended the 2016 regular season with a win over Hartford and a loss to St. John's.

The Seawolves blanked the Hawks, 7-0, Friday and lost to the Red Storm, 5-2.

Stony Brook lost only 11 points during singles play against Hartford.  Freshman Devanshi Bhimjiyani (Rajkot, India) beat Hannah Goldman, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot.  Seniors Becky Shtilkind (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Louise Badoche (Paris, France) also won 6-1, 6-0 in their singles matches.

The Seawolves also dominated doubles play, losing three points.  The No. 1 duo of sophomores Yana Nikolaeva (Thornhill, Ontario) and Elizabeth Tsvetkov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won 6-0.

Stony Brook (9-6) got off to a good start against St. John's, leading 1-0 after claiming the doubles point. But the Red Storm won five of the six singles matches.  Shtilkind was the lone Seawolf to win a singles match, beating Irina Preotescu, 6-2, 6-3.

Stony Brook will look for a fifth straight America East Championship next weekend at the Wilde Lake Tennis Center in Maryland next weekend.
