Columbia, Md. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team will be playing for its fifth straight America East Championship after a 4-0 win over UMBC in the semifinals Saturday at the Wilde Lake Tennis Center.
The Seawolves, who will face Albany in the finals Sunday, will advance to their fifth straight NCAA Tournament with a victory.
Freshman Devanshi Bhimjiyani (Rajkot, India) and senior Louise Badoche (Paris, France) gave Stony Brook a 1-0 lead with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. After UMBC tied the match, junior Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) and senior Becky Shtilkind (Brooklyn, N.Y.) clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 win over Kurasz/Tonjann.
The Seawolves dominated singles play with three wins in the top three spots.
Sophomore Yana Nikolaeva (Thornhill, Ontario) beat Maria Siopacha, 6-3, 6-3 to make it 2-0. Sophomore Elizabeth Tsvetkov's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot gave Stony Brook a commanding 3-0 lead.
Bhimjiyani's 6-2, 6-3 win over Mariami Dolashvili clinched the match for Stony Brook (10-6).
Sunday's match vs. Albany will start at 12 p.m.
