Four Seawolves named IWLCA All-Region

May 13, 2016

Grand Lake, Colo. - Four members of the No. 7/6 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team – senior Alyssa Fleming (Shoreham, N.Y.), juniors Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) and Dorrien Van Dyke (Northport, N.Y.) and sophomore Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) – were named Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) first-team all-region selections, as announced by the IWLCA Friday.

Fleming was Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the America East in 2016 and ranks in the top 20 nationally in caused turnovers. Murphy, the nation’s leading scorer with 95 goals entering Friday’s game at No. 17 Boston College, was the America East Offensive Player of the Year and America East Championship Most Outstanding Player.

Van Dyke and Ohlmiller were America East first-team all-conference honorees and join Murphy in making up the only set of three teammates nationally who all have 65 or more points. Murphy and Van Dyke are one of just two pairs of 50-goal scorers nationally, while Ohlmiller has tallied 40 goals and 40 assists for the second consecutive year to join Murphy as Tewaaraton nominees.

The Seawolves open the 2016 NCAA tournament Friday at 4 p.m. when they face No. 17 Boston College in Newton, Massachusetts.
