Tesoriero, McCarthy earn America East weekly honors

May 2, 2016

Boston - The No. 7/6 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team took home two of the three weekly honors for the final week of the 2016 regular season, as freshman Anna Tesoriero (Huntington, N.Y.) was named Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Keri McCarthy (Hauppauge, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Tesoriero was tabbed for a weekly award for the sixth time in 10 weeks after she held Albany to four goals and made five saves in the Seawolves’ 13-4 victory over Albany. Tesoriero closed conference play with an America East-record 3.56 goals-against average. Monday marks the third Defensive Player of the Week award for Tesoriero (Feb. 29, April 11, May 2), while she was named Rookie of the Week three times (March 28, April 18, April 25).

McCarthy collected her second Rookie of the Week honor after she tallied five draw controls in the Seawolves’ victory over the Great Danes. McCarthy’s 36 draw controls in America East play are tied for fifth-most in conference history.

In total, the Seawolves earned 19 of a possible 30 weekly awards in the 10 weeks in which they played during the regular season. Tesoriero led the way with six, while senior Alyssa Fleming (Shoreham, N.Y.), junior Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) and sophomore Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) each tallied three. McCarthy notched two, while sophomore Brooke Gubitosi (East Northport, N.Y.) and freshman Mackenzie Burns (West Sayville, N.Y.) each added one.

The Seawolves return to action Friday, May 6, when they host New Hampshire at 5 p.m. in an America East semifinal.
