STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook's baseball program was once again well represented in collegiate wooden bat leagues around the nation this past summer and four Seawolves earned league titles, while three were selected to their respective all-star teams.
Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario), Joe Baran (West Hazelton, Pa.) and Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) all were on their leagues' championship team, while Seawolves' volunteer assistant coach Dan Luisi coached his team to a second consecutive league title.
Baker and Handley, both rising seniors for Stony Brook, were teammates on the Mystic Schooners that claimed the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) title.
Baran, a rising sophomore, helped the Allentown Railers win the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) championship, while Gazzola, a rising junior, helped guide the Amsterdam Mohawks to the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League title.
Luisi, the head coach of the Westhampton Aviators, claimed the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) for the second straight year.
In addition to winning the crown, Handley was named second team NECBL All-Star after batting .320 with a pair of home runs, 11 RBI and 23 runs scored in 29 games.
Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.), a rising junior for Stony Brook, earned all-star honors in the California Collegiate League and was named the Pitcher of the Year for the Orange County Riptide. He compiled a 1.98 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 27.1 innings of work as a reliever.
Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.), a rising sophomore for the Seawolves, earned all-star honors as a member of the North Fork Ospreys in the HCBL.
Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Mass.), a rising junior, was awarded the Unsung Hear Award by the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League. Rodliff made a team-high 17 appearances on the mound and recorded a 1.35 ERA in 26.2 innings of work.
