New York - Former Stony Brook captain Kyle McTurk ('12) signed a first team contract with the New York Cosmos of the NASL on Tuesday. McTurk competed for the Cosmos B team last season.
"Kyle has proven himself in training sessions with the first team," said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. "We are committed to providing a pathway for players that are developing in our club and we're pleased to add him to the squad as we push for another successful season."
McTurk served as captain of the last Stony Brook championship team in 2011, earning first team All-America East honors. He made 63 career starts on the Stony Brook back line over his four-year career.
After graduation, McTurk spent two seasons on the Stony Brook coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in 2013 and 2014.
"I'm excited for Kyle as I know he has worked really hard for this opportunity and fully deserves it," said Stony Brook head coach Ryan Anatol. "The Cosmos have a great history and hopefully Kyle can help bring future success to the organization.
McTurk will be the second former Seawolf to play for the Cosmos over the last two seasons. Leo Fernandes led the team with eight goals in 2015 on a loan spell from the Philadelphia Union of the MLS.
