Scouting UMBC
UMBC enters the weekend at 2-4 on the year with all four losses coming to ranked teams. The Retrievers started the season with back-to-back games against top-10 opponents, facing then-No. 1 North Carolina and No. 8 James Madison. UMBC picked up its first win of the year against Mercer, 15-4, and is coming off of a 6-4 win at Marist last weekend.
Max Maxwell leads the Retriever attack with eight goals and 11 assists on the season, while Ryan Frawley also adds a team-best eight goals. Jake Brothers has been the go-to on the face-off for UMBC, winning 48-of-103. Ruston Souder has manned the cage for the Retrievers all season, he has a 9.67 GAA and .482 save percentage.

Series Info
UMBC leads the all-time series 13-9. It took the first four games of the series that began in 1997. Stony Brook has won each of the last two meetings, including last season's 14-11 victory in Baltimore. A win Saturday would match the Seawolves' longest win streak in the series.

Last Time Out
The Seawolves suffered their first loss of the season when they fell at No. 7 Rutgers, 17-4. Stony Brook got out to a slow start as Rutgers put away six goals in the first quarter and continued the pace in the second. The Seawolves got on the board in the second quarter when freshman Wayne White (Huntington, N.Y.) put away a pass from classmate Tom Haun (Sachem, N.Y.), but they were never able to string together a run.
The Scarlet Knights dominated the face-off winning all seven in the first quarter and 18 of the 25 in the game.

200 Wins
The win over Fairfield in Stony Book's home opener marked the 200th of head coach Jim Nagle's 23-year coaching career. Nagle currently sits at 49-40 in his sixth season at Stony Brook and has notched 12-plus wins in each of the last two seasons.

Best Start in Program History
Stony Brook notched its best start in program history, opening the year with a 4-0 record. The Seawolves opened the year with three road wins, including a victory over then-No. 10 Brown to mark just the second time in program history they have taken down a top-10 team, and kept it rolling in their home opener as tey knocked off Fairfield. The previous best start was Stony Brook's three straight wins to open the 1989 season.

In the Polls
The Seawolves are currently receiving votes on both the coaches and media polls this week after the loss at No. 7 Rutgers. Prior to this week Stony Brook sat at No. 14 in the nation following their win over Fairfield. The Seawolves debuted in the polls in week two of the season after a commanding win at No. 10 Brown, entering the ranks at No. 18.

Immediate Impact
The Seawolves have seen an immediate impact from its freshman class early in the year. Harrison Matsuoka (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Haun, White, Connor Grippe (Setauket, N.Y.) and Cory VanGinhoven (Fort Mill, N.C.) lead the newcomers early on as each has played in every game so far this season. The group has combined for 32 of the team's 64 goals to far this year, and also tallied 13 assists, 21 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
VanGinhoven was named America East Rookie of the Week after putting away seven goals against then-No. 10 Brown. He leads the team with 13 goals on the year. Haun has also been an impressive force on offense for the Seawolves after starting the year with four goals against Sacred Heart, he has nine goals and five assists on the season.
