Stony Brook signs Cheyenne Clark to National Letter of Intent

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook head women's basketball coach Caroline McCombs has announced the signing of Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 season.

"Cheyenne is a high-motor forward who can really defend, rebound and has a knack for scoring around the basket," said McCombs. "She brings a tremendous amount of energy and intensity to the court that will raise our level of play in the post. We believe she will be an immediate impact player for our program."

Clark joins the Seawolves after two years at Mohawk Valley Community College. In 2016-17, Clark led the NJCAA with 17.9 rebounds per game and helped the Hawks to a third-place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament. The 5-11 forward averaged a team-high 19.0 points per game and was named NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Year and to the NJCAA National Tournament All-Tournament team. Clark holds the NJCAA single-game record with 38 rebounds in a game last December.

"Outside of the obvious physical gifts and skill set she brings to the table, I think it is Cheyenne's passion for the game and intense competitive nature on the floor which separates her from most," said Mohawk Valley head coach Jason Carpenter. "I have had both the blessing and luxury the last two seasons of sharing a gym with a player who rarely, if ever, needed to be motivated or inspired to give more. Cheyenne Clark is as motivated and as tough as they come."

Clark played her high school basketball at Deptford Township High School in New Jersey, where she totaled over 1,600 points and 1,600 rebounds. The Spartans advanced to the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Group 2 tournament in Clark's junior and senior seasons.
