2017 Schedule
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook head volleyball coach
Kristin Belzung has announced the Seawolves' schedule for the 2017 season - a 28-match regular-season slate in preparation for November's America East tournament.
The Seawolves will play 20 of 28 matches away from Pritchard Gymnasium, including 14 of their first 15 in 2017. The early-season nonconference schedule will bring Stony Brook to Indiana, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and central New York in preparation for the 12-match America East slate, with a trio of local foes mixed in for midweek competition.
"After seeing a lot of growth through spring training, we're excited as we look forward to our first season at Stony Brook," said Belzung. "The nonconference schedule is a great mix of teams that will challenge our group and prepare us for America East play. Fans should mark their calendars for our home opener against Hofstra Sept. 5. It will be a great opportunity for the community to see a new style of Seawolves volleyball."
Stony Brook begins 2017 with four matches in the season's opening weekend in Indianapolis. The Seawolves will begin the year against Robert Morris and face host Butler in the opening Friday (Aug. 25) before squaring off with Oakland and Eastern Michigan (Aug. 26).
The following two weekends will be spent in New England, beginning with three matches at Harvard. Stony Brook will face the host Crimson in Cambridge, Massachusetts (Sept. 1), before playing American and Sacred Heart the following day (Sept. 2).
Stony Brook will play the first of eight home matches when cross-island foe Hofstra visits Pritchard Gymnasium (Sept. 5) before returning to the road for three matches in Smithfield, Rhode Island, at Bryant. The Seawolves will face Brown (Sept. 8) before matches against Bryant and Manhattan (Sept. 9).
The final nonconference weekend will be in Hamilton, New York, where the Seawolves will take on La Salle and host Colgate (Sept. 15) before a match against Cornell (Sept. 16). Three days later, Stony Brook heads to Queens for a midweek showdown with St. John's (Sept. 19).
America East play begins at home with Hartford (Sept. 29) and UMBC (Oct. 1) before a road weekend at UMass Lowell (Oct. 6) and New Hampshire (Oct. 7). Stony Brook will then host Iona in a midweek match (Oct. 10).
The Seawolves then travel to Binghamton (Oct. 13) and Albany (Oct. 15), followed by a 12-day break before matches at UMBC (Oct. 27) and Hartford (Oct. 29) to close out October.
Stony Brook's final four conference matches will be at home, as UMass Lowell (Nov. 3) and New Hampshire (Nov. 5) come to town before regular-season play concludes with home matches against Albany (Nov. 10) and Binghamton (Nov. 12).
The top four teams in the regular-season standings will meet the following weekend in the home gym of the No. 1 seed for the America East Championship, with the winner capturing the America East's automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament.
